Beauty Demands a Blood Price
The Exsanguinated Dice set by Dispel Dice didnât arrive quietly. They arrived on game night and immediately turned into a full table-side unboxing led by my son and his friends. The reaction?
Oohs. Ahhs. That quiet kind of reverence you only get when something genuinely beautiful hits the table.
Labyrinth, Power Glove, Exsanguinated, and Devil You Know sets

Some dice quietly join your collection.
Others have to be rescued from your own family.
When my latest order from Dispel Dice arrived, my son insisted on an impromptu unboxing session. Most of the sets received the expected admiration, but one set immediately stole the spotlight. As soon as the Exsanguinated dice emerged from the box, the room filled with “Ooh!” and “Let me see those!” Before I knew it, several hands were reaching for them, and I found myself declaring ownership before they disappeared into someone else’s dice bag.
After spending several months rolling them at the table, I understand exactly why everyone wanted them.
Design & Appearance
Exsanguinated is exactly what its name promises.
The translucent crimson resin is layered with darker and lighter swirls that create the unsettling impression of freshly spilled blood suspended inside crystal. The effect isn’t cartoonish or overdoneâit feels organic, almost disturbingly realistic. It’s easy to imagine these dice being collected from the aftermath of some terrible ritual rather than poured into a mold.
The production quality is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Dispel Dice. Each die is flawlessly polished with crisp, sharp edges and no visible bubbles, scratches, mold marks, or imperfections. The craftsmanship is exceptional.
Perhaps the greatest compliment I can give them is this:
The product photos are completely honest. The dice arrived looking exactly like the images onlineâwhich is surprisingly rare for premium resin dice.
Feel & Performance
In the hand, Exsanguinated feels substantial without becoming overly heavy. The weight is balanced, the edges are crisp, and every roll feels deliberate.
Over several months of play, the set consistently produced smooth, fair rolls with no noticeable bias toward particular faces. They simply performed exactly as quality gaming dice should.
Like every other Dispel Dice set I’ve tested, these immediately communicate that they’re a premium product. From the presentation box to the final roll across the table, everything feels carefully crafted.
Readability
This is where Exsanguinated loses a point.
Under bright lighting, the numbers are perfectly usable.
Under normal room lightingâthe kind most gaming tables actually useâthe dark red numbering against the equally dark resin can become surprisingly difficult to distinguish. I frequently found myself picking up the die just to verify what I had rolled, regardless of whether the result mattered.
For players who prioritize instant readability above everything else, this may become a genuine frustration.
For me, it became an accepted compromise.
These dice are simply too beautiful to leave behind.
“Despite the readability issue, these dice have never left my gaming bag. They’re always sitting on the table, waiting for their next victim.”
Photography & Table Presence
Photographing Exsanguinated proved surprisingly easy under controlled lighting, where the swirling reds and remarkable depth really come alive.
As good as they look in photographs, though, they are even more striking in person. Light catches the translucent resin in ways that still images struggle to capture, giving the dice an almost liquid appearance.
They’re exactly the sort of dice that cause someone across the table to stop mid-conversation and ask,
“Where did you get those?”
Who Are These Dice For?
Exsanguinated practically begs to be rolled in darker campaigns.
They’re perfect for gothic horror, vampire chronicles, cursed bloodlines, grimdark adventures, brutal barbarians, sinister warlocks, or anyone whose character solves problems with overwhelming violence.
If your campaign features moonlit castles, haunted cathedrals, crimson rituals, or creatures that stalk the night, these dice will feel right at home.
Final Verdict
Exsanguinated may not be the easiest dice I’ve ever read, but they are absolutely among the most beautiful I’ve ever owned.
The visual design is unforgettable, the craftsmanship is exceptional, and the rolling experience is every bit as premium as I’ve come to expect from Dispel Dice. While the darker numbering occasionally slows gameplay under typical table lighting, the breathtaking appearance more than compensates for that single weakness.
In fact, despite the readability issue, these dice have never left my gaming bag.
They’re always sitting on the table, waiting for their next victim.
