Fizban’s Fortune Mystery d20 Review
The Bronze Dragon d20 That Never Made It Back into the Dice Bag.
There are some dice you buy for the table. And then there are dice that feel like they escaped from a dragon’s hoard.
The Fizban’s Fortune Mystery d20 series from FanRoll Dice falls squarely into that second category.
From the moment the box was opened, this one felt different. The packaging alone gave the impression that something valuable was waiting inside; not gimmicky or flashy, but deliberate. The kind of presentation that makes a table full of players lean forward before the seal is even broken. And when this particular mystery box revealed the rare hollow-metal Bronze Dragon d20, it immediately became clear why collectors chase these things.
This wasn’t just another oversized novelty die. This felt like treasure.

First Impressions: A Dragon’s Hoard in Miniature
The Bronze Dragon d20 is a hollow-core metallic die finished in a weathered antique bronze tone, with deeply cut numbering stamped directly into the open latticework metal. The center of the die is completely visible through the engraved framework, giving it an almost impossible look in-hand; more sculpture than gaming accessory.
And somehow, despite the complexity of the design, it remains surprisingly readable at the table.
That balance between ornate craftsmanship and practical usability is what makes this piece stand out. It absolutely looks like something pulled from the vaults of Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. Ancient. Valuable. Rare. The sort of artifact a party would spend three sessions trying to steal from beneath a sleeping dragon.
The funny thing is once I opened it, I barely used it. Not because it rolled poorly. Quite the opposite.
It simply felt special enough that I didn’t want to risk tossing it around every week with the rest of my table dice.
So now it sits on the shelf behind the DM screen, coming down mostly when someone new visits for game night and inevitably asks:
“Wait… what is that die?”
The Table Reaction
This die survived what can only be described as a full-scale kid-driven unboxing event.
The day the shipment arrived, my son gathered several friends around the dining room table before I even had the chance to photograph anything. Boxes were opened like treasure chests while everyone argued over favorites and attempted to unofficially “claim” dice for themselves before the sets even hit the table.
Several dice disappeared into player collections that day. This one did not. Everybody wanted the Bronze Dragon d20. Everybody. And for once, I stood firm. No trades, no borrowing, no “just for one session.”
Some dice become table tools. This one became part of the collection.
Rolling the Bronze Dragon
Most metal dice roll with authority. This one rolls with grace.
Because the die is hollow, it’s dramatically lighter than traditional solid metal dice. Instead of the loud clatter and aggressive tumble most players expect from zinc alloy sets, the Bronze Dragon d20 rolls quietly and smoothly across the table with an almost delicate elegance.
“Spry” is probably the best word for it.
It moves quickly, lands softly, and feels surprisingly balanced despite its unconventional construction. In actual use, the rolls felt fair and consistent throughout testing.
And while this could absolutely function as a daily-use d20, it still carries the emotional weight of a collector’s piece. Every toss feels intentional. Important. Like this is the die you pull out when the entire campaign hangs on a single roll.
You know the moment. The dragon’s breath weapon. The final death save. The impossible persuasion check. This feels like that die.

Is the Fizban’s Fortune Mystery d20 Worth It?
At around $25 per box, these mystery d20s walk an interesting line between premium gaming accessory and collectible blind-box experience.
Based on the Bronze Dragon die alone? Absolutely worth it.
The reality is that the value proposition here depends heavily on whether you enjoy the mystery-box format. If you’re hoping for a specific die, randomness can be frustrating. But if you enjoy the thrill of discovery, and especially if you appreciate dragon-themed collectibles, this series captures the feeling of uncovering hidden treasure remarkably well.
And that’s really the core strength of this product line. Opening these doesn’t feel like shopping, it feels like looting.
Final Verdict
The FanRoll Fizban’s Fortune Mystery d20 series understands something many premium dice lines miss: Emotion matters.
The Bronze Dragon d20 isn’t the heaviest metal die I own. It isn’t the sharpest-edged, it isn’t the loudest or most aggressive roller, but it’s one of the few dice I’ve ever opened and immediately felt attached to.
It feels like the kind of artifact you’d find buried beneath gold coins in a dragon’s hoard; rare, elegant, and strangely difficult to put back once you’ve picked it up.
And honestly, that may be the highest compliment a collector die can earn.
