Serious Dice with Extra Cheese: A Review of the Pizza Dice Set

The Pizza Dice set from Awesome Dice made a strong first impression the moment I opened the box. These are clearly novelty dice, but they’re executed with a level of care and quality that immediately stood out. Presentation alone exceeded expectations. The dice arrive in a pizza box–style case, laid out like toppings on a pizza, and it’s impossible not to smile when you see them for the first time.

First Impressions: A Delightful Presentation (and a Better-Than-Expected Set)

This is one of those sets that earns a reaction before the first roll. The pizza box presentation is genuinely fun, and it’s also well executed. The dice look slick, feel good in hand, and immediately read as a quality set rather than a throwaway novelty.

“These are wicked cool, and I love using them.”

Theme Done Right: Pizza Styles, Toppings, and Playable Faces

Awesome Dice leaned into the theme in smart ways; pizza toppings on the d4 (extra cheese, extra sauce), pizza style names on the d8 (think Detroit, New York, Neapolitan, Chicago), and specialty pizza types on the d12 (Margherita, BBQ Chicken, Veggie, Hawaiian). It’s playful without getting in the way of use. These may be themed dice, but they’re designed to be rolled.

Feel & Readability: Comfortable Rollers with Clear Markings

In hand, these feel like solid, average-weight acrylic dice that roll easily and comfortably. Readability is excellent. The faces are clearly marked, and even with the themed imagery, there’s no confusion at the table.

Standout Detail: The Modern d4

This was my first set with a modern d4 design. It’s more like a rounded, d6-style shape than the traditional pyramid. I found it immediately more pleasant to handle and roll, and I genuinely prefer it over the classic caltrop d4.

At the Table: A Fun Pause… Then They Just Work

When I brought the pizza box case to the table, play stopped for a moment … in the best way. Everyone wanted a look, everyone wanted a roll, and the set got genuine “oohs” and “ahhs.” Once that novelty moment passed, though, the dice settled right into play without any issues.

Where They Fit: Daily Rollers Disguised as Novelty

Despite the theme, these aren’t “once in a while” gag dice for me. I’d happily use these as daily rollers. They’re not flashy, showpiece dice, they’re the kind of set that’s simply fun to use, and I don’t feel precious about putting them to work.

Scott’s Dice Bag – Quick Take

  • Vibe: Playful theme, serious performance
  • Best For: Everyday rolling, table laughs, one-shots and long campaigns alike
  • Readability: Excellent (theme doesn’t reduce clarity)
  • Standout Feature: The modern d4 shape
  • Final Word: A “wicked cool” set you’ll actually use.

The Pizza Dice set feels like it could become a treasured part of almost anyone’s collection. Not because it’s fancy, but because it’s thoughtfully designed, well made, and genuinely enjoyable at the table.

Now I want to know: what’s the most fun novelty set you’ve ever brought to the table?
