Hidden Depths: A Review of the Blue Geode Dice Set
The Blue Geode dice set from Awesome Dice made an immediate impression when I opened the box: these are a beautiful set of dice. They’re larger than I expected at first, though that’s on me, because the product description does note the increased size. Once in hand, it stopped being a concern almost instantly. The dice feel substantial without being awkward, and they match the product photos almost perfectly.

Note: I purchased this set myself, and this review comes from my own table experience. Awesome Dice did not sponsor, approve, or endorse this review. I’m simply linking to their storefront for readers who’d like to learn more.
First Impressions: Bigger Than Expected (and That’s Okay)
The one surprise out of the box was scale. Even though the listing mentions these are larger than standard dice, I didn’t register it, and I noticed immediately when I picked them up. In practice, it’s not a drawback. The extra size makes the set feel present and substantial, and it pairs nicely with how readable the faces are.
“From one angle they look like obsidian; turn them slightly and the blue-and-gold interior appears.”
Look & Theme: Obsidian on the Outside, Geode Within
Visually, the Blue Geodes are elegant and subtle, until the light catches them. From one angle, they read as dark brown, almost black, like a polished obsidian set. Shift them, and the interior reveals itself: a beautiful blue-and-gold glittering depth that gives the dice that “hidden geode” feeling. They’re refined rather than flashy, but they still stand out at the table.

Feel & Build: First Sharp-Edged Set, Built to Take a Beating
This was my first set of sharp-edged dice, and they do feel different, likely a combination of the crisp corners and the slightly larger size. They’re light and smooth in hand, but the edges are clean and defined. Most importantly, they feel durable. These look and feel like dice that can handle regular play and stay in rotation for a long time.
Rolling Experience: Two Crits Out of the Gate
These dice arrived with a reputation at my table almost immediately. I was DM-ing when they debuted, and my first two d20 rolls were critical hits. Then the d12 hit for 12 damage and the d10 landed an 8. The table was not amused; everyone except me, that is. The set continued to roll consistently after that, and if there’s such a thing as luck settling into a set, these found it early.
Readability: Clear Faces, Even in Dim Light
Readability is excellent. The contrast between the numbers and the background is distinct, and even in dim lighting the results are easy to call. These are dice you can use without squinting, which matters a lot during longer sessions.
Where They Fit: Daily Rollers with “Underground” Energy
These could easily become daily rollers. They’re comfortable, easy to read, and visually interesting without becoming distracting. The aesthetic feels especially suited for underground or dungeon-heavy campaigns, something dwarven, halfling, or deep-delving, but they’re versatile enough to fit almost anywhere.
The Blue Geode set is a beautiful addition to almost any collection. If you appreciate elegant aesthetics paired with strong build quality, and you like dice that reveal more the longer you look, this set is easy to recommend.
Do you have a set that looks “quiet” until it hits the light? I’d love to hear what it is.
